Nadia Fakhoury Paris
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My journey began at the age of 20 when I re-designed t-shirts for my artist friends in New York. A former model for photographers like Robert Mapplethorpe, Pierre et Gilles, and others, and later a photographer myself, I founded Nadia Fakhoury Paris in 2018. I champion a "Made in France" label that embodies the prestige, ethics, and craftsmanship of the French industry.
When did you discover your love for art/design?
At a young age, aesthetics were already ingrained in me and it evolved as I grew older. Exploring colors, shapes, and textures from a tender age, my fascination for the world of art and design deepened over time, becoming an integral part of my identity.
What or who inspires you?
I've always been drawn to pop art, with artists like Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring capturing my attention. Their bold use of colors and unconventional expressions resonated with me, catch my creative spark and greatly influencing my artistic journey. Additionally, my brand's inspiration stems from the people I observe on the streets daily, observing their unique styles and fashion choices that inspire my designs, reflecting their individuality. Cinema also plays a crucial role in my creative process, drawing from iconic figures like Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and other films. Their distinctive styles and self-expression through clothing significantly impact my designs, especially for pieces like the Marcel. Moreover, I find inspiration from Robert de Niro's captivating style in "Taxi Driver." Notably, I draw inspiration from the late Jane Birkin's iconic tank-top look as well. Freddie Mercury's iconic tank top has also deeply inspired me at Nadia Fakhoury Paris. His seamless fusion of rock 'n' roll attitude and a touch of elegance in his style harmonizes with my design philosophy, aiming to convey that same spirit of individuality and confidence in my creations.
In which situation are you most creative?
At night, when everyone else is asleep and dreams take over. The stillness of the night offers an enchanting canvas for my thoughts to dance freely, unburdened by distractions, allowing me to explore uncharted realms of creativity.
What gets you out of artist's block?
Traveling inspires me and gives me a burst of creativity. Experiencing new cultures, landscapes, and perspectives breathes life into my imagination, shattering creative barriers and infusing fresh ideas into my work.
Do you have a favorite piece of art/design and what is it?
I've been drawing since I was a child. My brand logo, the Marcel design, who is the portrait of my son that I drew a few years ago, is the piece of design I'm most proud of. It allows me to fulfill my vision as a clothing designer. What's more, I've developed this vision to the point of developing an NFT project bringing interesting solutions to investors such as passive income in crypto-currency.
Do you have a favorite artist or designer?
If I had to choose one, it would be Andy Warhol. His avant-garde approach to art and his ability to challenge societal norms through his work have left an indelible mark on me, shaping my own artistic aspirations.
Where can we see your work?
What are you currently working on?
I'm re-designing pieces from my current line with new touches of inspiration. Exploring innovative ways to infuse my designs with renewed energy, I'm excited to bring forth a collection that merges timeless elegance with contemporary flair.
